Cat Emotions

Does your cat have feelings?

Does your cat have you confused at times? One minute they are purring and the next minute something sets them off and they hiss or smack you with their paw?

It is true their behavior is often times perplexing, but if you Do cats really get mad? get to know them well, a definite pattern will be noticed.

A neighbor had a cat that she had raised from a kitten. She was incredibly well behaved, affectionate and all the things you would expect from a great cat...except when she would leave for a weekend or go for a brief vacation. Her cat would show incredible happiness at her return, meow, purr, the whole works, until bedtime! After she would get ready for bed, her cat would look at her, meow, position herself in the middle of the bed and then urinate! After the fourth or fifth time of the same pattern she realized that she was displaying anger. It was almost as if she was saying "I'll show you not to leave me alone again!" For the most part this is considered rather complex thinking and the act of urinating on the bed is usually considered as marking territory, but in this instance it certainly causes one to raise an eyebrow!

Animals do have feelings, but often times are biased by human perspective. It is important to understand your pet's behavior within their context and perspective. Always ask your veterinarian for help when needing assistance with behavioral problems. Human discipline does not translate to cat discipline!
